There are some things that are imperative in nature and you must keep them in mind while engaging in a conversation with an appreciator of Japanese visual culture. When I refer to the term ‘appreciator of Japanese visual culture’, it means one who is not an average chomper of the standard ‘shounen’ mainstream shows. Things are easier when you are interacting with a chomper for all you need to do is to join the chomper in a session of praising how hot Allen Walker is or whether Sasuke is better looking than Itachi (although they look practically the same). However if you are faced with an appreciator of Japanese visual culture also known as The Anime Fan, you are dealing with a different scenario.

One has to understand that the Anime Fan is compelled to affirm one’s own taste in anime appreciation and the Anime Fan seeks to do so by avoiding standard shows like Naruto, Bleach and D Gay Gray Man because being different is a perceived allusion to having ‘class’ and being intelligent. And with that in mind, which is what has been written in the previous sentence, one would be ready to handle a conversation with The Anime Fan.

The reason why The Anime Fan would want to talk about anime is because of the urge to affirm his or her taste in anime. By talking with someone who watches anime as well, The Anime Fan attempts to access whether the other person is has better taste in anime through questions like ‘So what are you favourite genres’ or ‘What are your top favourites?’. Usually The Anime Fan is confident in having better taste so you do not have to worry about accidently making The Anime Fan feel bad. If The Anime Fan is not confident, he or she would not have attempted to bring up such a topic in the first place.

In order to make your Anime Fan friend feel good, you must allow the one whom you are talking to muse about the qualities of several of his or her own top picks. Be prepared to be accosted by long sentences about how certain shows have thought provoking themes in philosophy and pseudo-religious references. There might be a slight chance that your Anime Fan fan might delve deeper into arguing that anime appreciation is a sub-culture for intellects and begins to abuse the term otaku (but that is another story). Basically, animes that are less popular are tools used by The Anime Fan to present an image of being different and variation is a good thing in their opinion. Apart from indie anime like Eve no Jikan or Kaiba (used for recent examples), The Anime Fan might have a tendency to bring up shows from the 80s or early 90s because going vintage is another way to show one’s class. And never express doubt in The Anime Fan’s taste, it only serves to extend the length of the conversation because of The Anime Fan’s determination to justify his or her preferences. Apart from keeping quiet most of the time apart from those moments when you have to express some positive acknowledge to boost the ego of The Anime Fan, you must not attempt to mention an indie anime from your knowledge. This is because it prompts The Anime Fan to initiate a phase of critical comparison, judging how indie your show is as compared to his or hers.

So remember, The Anime Fan is a generous giver and you have to receive all that is splashed in order to make The Anime Fan feel good. Keeping that in mind, you are close to the beginning of a beautiful friendship with The Anime Fan.

Curiosity prompted me to type ‘Nia’ and ‘Otaku’ on Google and it eventually led me to a German otaku blog via Danny’s Kingdom. Now I know what kind of servant would Tohsaka Rin get if she was to perform a summoning ritual using a dakimakura.

Holy Jam! I so deserve to be blasted to another galaxy in Team Rocket style for not knowing about the existence of a particular show!

I was minding my own business until a friend of mine accosted me and gave me the url to that youtube video. Apparently it is the music video of an upcoming movie directed by The Wachowski Brothers called Speed Racer. Guess what? This movie is an adaptation of an anime from the late 60s called Mahha GoGoGo.

Yes, my current knowledge on Mahha GoGoGo/Speed Racer is all currently based on THE Wikipedia. Oh the shame but it cannot be helped. Hey! Did someone just threw a tomato at me?

Basically the original anime/manga tells the story of a talented young racer who steps onto the international racing platform with his racing driving machine, the Mach 5. The P-Meister tells me that Speed Racer was really popular in America; is that true? Woots! I dodged a rotten egg thrown at me.

Speed Racer’s Mach 5. Looks more like a Tripe-Car to me though.

I know I am being carried away with my imagination so let it stop right here. Has anyone seen MahhaGoGoGo/Speed Racer before? Did you enjoy it? Oh heck! I am going to check out the original anime right away! Go Sojourner Go!

I have to confess that I am a total n00b when it comes to the internet. Blogging comes under that category as well of course. Nothing beats learning from scratch eh?

Speaking of category, perhaps I ought to explain a bit on how we denizens of the Alley classify our posts.

ANIME- The name of the category speaks for itself. If the post is about anime, which has a 99.78% chance of being so, then it comes under ANIME.

BLEAH…- Posts that seem to be random in nature are ‘Bleah…’ posts. Because they are simply, uh… bleah…

Not lolcats. Just a random picture.

DAILY IMPERATIVE LESSONS 4 DESPERATE OTAKUS- Or DILDO in short is a gift of the gods to us pathetic mortals. Whenever the P-Meister opens his mouth to spew nonsense share words of great wisdom, they are usually DILDO hence they carry valuable advice to otakus in the aspect of life that is beyond the boundaries of anime/manga.

THE GOSPEL OF P-MEISTER- Brimming with wisdom are the teachings of the P-Meister. The difference between DILDO and The Gospel is that, all DILDOs are from the Gospel of P-Meister but not all teachings of the Gospel can be classified as DILDOs. The P-Meister usually gets his inspiration for such posts while in the toilet or while he is chomping on roast chicken.

The reason why Chuck Norris is never wrong is because he reads the Gospel of the P-Meister before bedtime.

FTW- Humans are bias and no one is excluded from that statement. No doubt would the Alley’s denizens have their own opinion on certain anime shows. Suffice to say, if we like a show and if a post is dedicated to it, it goes under the category of FTW.

WTF- Alright, no cookie for figuring on what posts might be WTFed in the future. If we like a show, it is FTW; If we do not like a show, it is WTFed. Get the logic? FTW <—> WTF. Well it might be too extreme of an opinion to label shows that we dislike as WTF as it sends the message that the show is so horrible that the dinosaurs went extinct after watching it. Try not to take WTF too seriously as an attempt to bash a show. Life would be much easier if the Internet goes easy on the serious business.
