And also I noticed that in the anime, the impressive execution of the story was what made the characters likable, while it was the charm of the real life characters that made the dorama entertaining. This is what kept me away from the anime - which seems boring by far compared to the great and over the top performances in the dorama. Perhaps the most significant problem in the anime is that it has to resort to a LOT of stills during performance scenes. These take away way too much from the experience IMO. This review validates my aversion. The Platini competition was awesome! How can they do this to YUKO, the living comedy goldmine? I discovered Nodame Cantabile as a dorama, and what an amazing and lovable one it is.
