Nodame Cantabile Paris-hen #02

The second episode was a surprise to me because the Platini Competition, which was an arduous trial to Chiaki, was covered quickly and concluded within the span of the episode. And I noticed that the animation for the arms of the musicians was very ‘computerised’… is that the way one is supposed to describe it? Just before the end, Elise, Stresseman’s manager, is seen making a phone call and talking about ‘Operation Prometheus’. If you had seen the Live Drama’s Special Edition, you would know what her words meant; If you do not, it is just a plan to kidnap Chiaki and force him to go on a tour with our favourite ero conductor. OH SHI-

Anyway, Nodame tried her best to make this episode as enjoyable as possible with her antics but her efforts had less effect than the first episode. I wish the Platini trial could have been covered in two episodes at least. There was simply no satisfaction is seeing that part of the story cleared so quickly. Rushed episode was rushed. Mukya~!

Chiaki is a lucky man.

  • I discovered Nodame Cantabile as a dorama, and what an amazing and lovable one it is. This is what kept me away from the anime – which seems boring by far compared to the great and over the top performances in the dorama.

Perhaps the most significant problem in the anime is that it has to resort to a LOT of stills during performance scenes. These take away way too much from the experience IMO.

This review validates my aversion. The Platini competition was awesome! How can they do this to YUKO, the living comedy goldmine?

The anime’s first season was actually as good as the dorama in my opinion, because of the smooth flow of the story. And also I noticed that in the anime, the impressive execution of the story was what made the characters likable, while it was the charm of the real life characters that made the dorama entertaining.

Paris-hen is lacking the luster of its predecessor, as explained in the previous paragraph, at the moment so that is what makes it disappointing for now.

  • anime: first season > second season anyday.
paris arc: j-drama special PWNS second season.

and here i thought JCStaff still had hope. they’re making the second season look like a badly-planned anime-only story which only pisses off people who saw both the drama and read the anime like me.

  • It was the pacing of the second episode that bothered me; Let us hope it gets better!
