E3: Knights of the Old Republic(KOTOR) 3 release announced

This may come as a great disappointment to everyone who heard of the E3. Whilst not many anime fans look at star wars and its franchise, often labelled the Naruto of the western world, KOTOR 1 and 2 remained as games that are respected and have received praised from gamers for several years.

KOTOR 1 and 2

KOTOR 1 was good in its RPG and its storyline system. Its graphics was revolutionary at its time. KOTOR 2 had a weaker storyline but better gameplay. More of customization choices for the players and also a better difficulty system. Its graphics was good compared to modern games and its many bugs were quickly fixed due to the response of its creators.

Apparently, one of the reasons for KOTOR 1 and 2 s’ successes were because of Bioware and Obsidian, the same companies that owned Neverwinter Nights. These companies have ears to hear the demands of the gamers and do not only care about selling their products and making their money. NWN 1 and 2 community is an example. Althought NWN 2 delivers ugly sprites and lack of improvements to NWN 1, in addition to incomplete work, there is still a community that maintains it.

KOTOR 3

With regards to my post from long ago, I mentioned that EA games was one of the worst community managers out there. Now EA is going to do it. YES!! BIOWARE IS UNDER EA GAMES. HOHOHO! The nightmare. To handle a single player, EA has done well. Look at the nfs and console sports games released. EA didn’t do a bad job. Why? Because patches are not needed. To create a multiplayer game, a company will have to open its ears and eyes and nose and mouth and VAG00 in order to be a great game. This is a strain on manpower and its not the most efficient way of making money, but its what makes games great.

Why some EA games suck ass

EA games suck when it comes to developing storylines. C&C3 had a terrible storyline. BF2142 had a bad online experience crammed with bugs. EA is famous for buying smaller companies and using big names, yes, big names like Command and Conquer. After selling the products, they do release patches but they don’t often participate as much as boards. Not that they are not doing their job, but Obsidian, Bioware, Anet and Bnet and several other companies are doing WAAAAYYYYY better than them.

Heres a message to Electronic Arts from a fan whose many games you have ruined: I know EA loves money. You care about sales charts. Perhaps one day you might like to think what might happen after you bought finish all the famous titles and are done sending them to the grave. Not every gamer looks at trends and charts so you can leech them. For the great name of KOTOR, please have your eyes and ears opened to the community. TYVM.

Why Star Wars MMO Won’t Work

1) Everyone will want to be Jedis/Sith/Android with blue green and red lightsabers, it will be hard to balance a game like that.

2) EA likes to exploit famous titles to get sales, its just a name, this production isn’t KOTOR.

3) EA is the one behind this. Expect endless repeatable quests to get people grinding and keeping them busy. EA likes people to spend time on their games.

4) KOTOR was never an MMO, wrong name dudes. Using its name is like calling a duck a chicken, they are two different things. Unless its pt 5, which is also bad

5) Previous games like Star Wars Galaxies have not been fixed. Show a good example and fans will have greater expectations.

Conclusion

Sorry EA, not that I’m trying to slander you but this is what the gamers at the forums and me feel. Note that your success is the gamer’s pleasure, hence: Good luck.

And here’s a quote from a certain forum:

[did you say EA? It won't be worth the money then ...]

Now, to fans, I haven’t mentioned, but release is in 2009 TBA. Stay tuned. If its worth mentioning, I will cover it. =)

  • No Shit, this was in the pipeline for TOO damn long.

Personally I was a fan of KoTOR since 1 and 2, even though 2 was by Obsidian. Heck, KoTOR 2 STILL has an ongoing fan project digging up cut material. heh.

Still, I agree on the point EA makes games with shitty stories and bugs that plague me like a horde of locusts. The scrin were broek in C&C 3, and games like EA SPORTS FN 3 were pure eye-candy.

To me, this really isn’t a KoTOR 3, this may turn out like WoW instead. A proper KoTOR 3 to me would be a nice, standalone, SP Party-Based RPG like KoTOR 1 and 2 did it. The good ol’ fashioned way.

  • I’m barely jumping into KOTOR 1…”’orz

    But the TV in the room is busted, so I can’t play… ;_;

  • @P-meister: I suppose, but to me it’s mainly ’cause KoTOR has always been a very single-player centered game. MP co-op online though will be a great function.

  • MP Co-op would be great, but can EA pull it off? That remains to be seen. Regardless, I’ll still be keeping my eye out for KOTOR 3. With any luck, it might be able to live up to its name.

  • @Stifler: I hope so too, heh. EA had better not constrain Bioware by forcing deadlines upon them, etc, etc.
