This week’s episode of soul eater is SOOOO emo *weeps*… besides the witches’ portion. For Maka and Soul, I feel that both parties have deep feelings of concern for each other.

Lets get on with the summary shall we?
Episode summary
This episodes starts off with a small introduction on the status of Madame Demona, who sounds like the queen bitch of the witch universe. This also includes the introduction of two witches who talk a lot but are pathetically weak when we encounter them again later. One is Elka Frogg, representing a frog, and one is Mizune, representing a rat. It seems like witches tend to represent one animal of some sort. Apparently, Medusa seems to have something up her sleeves behind the back of all the other witches. Her very own interests clashes with the safety of the other witches as she continues her ‘spying’ on shibusen.
Moments later, Soul then have a health check up with none other than the school nurse, Medusa. He reports that he’s been having dreams being in a dark room with cheesy jazz music. An imp or demon will then appear and then asks him to enter the other room. He refuses because everytime he enters the other room, there’ll be only one light, and upon entering, he’ll find himself bursting out of Maka. That explains his nightmare from the previous episodes. He also mentions that Maka seems to be expressing pain whenever she sees her scar. This shows that she is guilty for making him suffer that slash.

Maka, Stein and Black Star then meet in the classroom, where Black Star was given a pot of magical water that drains the soul wavelength. This is to train his stamina. Stein then says that he’ll be able to use the Fey Blade right after this. Maka however couldn’t receive the same training. This was due to the difference in her and Black Star’s thinking. Black Star is one who never gives up and always works to surpass God. I felt that Black Star was hilarious in this part, doing more than he could in the training. I guess this is what makes him strong.

Anyway, to conclude, Maka is missing something before she can undergo training. As they were having dinner(not to forget some little interruption by Blair), Medusa was confronted by the two witches we saw earlier. They then explained their battle tactics, that is to transform and run away if she releases her soul protection, forcing her to be caught by Shibusen. Otherwise, they will fight her with their advantage of not having soul protection on. This probably also implies that Medusa is unable to transform. However, Medusa has already planned in advance. The snake which she controls is a mythical being, not just magic tattoos. As she had planted it on Mizune in advance, the rat dies easily and we probably won’t see her anymore. She thrashes them without removing her soul protection. Imbal…
Anyway, Maka senses this and rushes to the scene. Medusa then reports that the witches ran away. Stein with his keen senses seem to already know something. I believe he knows more than what he actually said. Anyway, to conclude, Soul worries about Maka and rushes to the scene. This then triggers some emo music and Maka realises what it was that was missing, courage. Stein then asks the two of them to report to him to commence training.
At the very end of the episode, Medusa threatens Elka and forces her to unleash the Man of the Demoneye.
My thoughts
Overall, i liked this episode. I kinda like Black Star a little more with his retardation. The emo parts were short but also nice to watch. I do hope to see their relationship go one step further. Anyway, I am sad that there wasn’t Tsubaki in this. I do wish to see her train together with Black Star.

Also, the episodes are really straight to the point and enjoyable. It doesn’t make the characters do stupid things just to carry on a particular training, like Naruto trying to find Sasuke for 30 episodes, or learn the Rasengan in 3 episodes. This can be proven as Black Star starts his training immediately and Maka and Soul will carry on theirs in the next episode. Also, some of Black Star’s results can be seen in the next epi. Still not draggy, still fun to watch. Another 39 episodes more to go!!
As for Maka and Soul, its a little hero-and-damsel-type of characterisation which is pretty enjoyable but hopefully it doesn’t get too cliched. Lets hope things go well with the two of them. I also wish to see more of Blair, she’s quite attractive, both sexually and characterwise. The dinner portion was just too short and we didn’t see much!! *sigh* Always look forward to the next episode.
Next Episode: Man of the Demon Eye

Next week the action happens as Maka and Soul starts their training. OOO, we also get to see some of Black Star action. Witch hunter will also be shown (again). Can’t wait to see how they will fare against some monster who blinded the Queen Bitch of the witch.
