Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations! Beautiful ending.

HOHOHO!!! I know the P-Meister is half a year late, but I just finished this game yesterday. It wasn’t my fault, it was a LOOONG game and exams were in the way. Anyway, With the release of GS4/Apollo Justice, I think i know what will be keeping my stylus and hands busy for the next few days. Also, only recently did I realise that the PW series had a manga!!

A beautiful ending!

Story Review

Depending on the player, this game can be ridiculous and interesting or just downright stupid and boring. Basically, like the previous series, you’re a lawyer. Sometimes you get to play as different lawyers such as Mia and Edgeworth but 90% of the time, you’re Phoenix Wright. The best part of the game is the storyline. There is a WHOLE LOT of reading which may not appeal to many, but the twists and turns in the cases and the storyline will surprise any reader. Treat it as reading a novel. There is no need to play the previous games to understand the storyline.

What made me even more delighted was the hidden story of Iris that was revealed in the end. I had lost all respect for Phoenix for acting like such a retard at the start. Never did I realise he had a reason to do so! The one he dated wasn’t Dahlia but Iris!! IMHO, they make a good pair. Whilst many would have speculated he’d end up with Maya, he ended up with Iris whilst getting a slap from Pearl that made his nose bleed. I can just imagine that happening. Anyway, this is the end of PW as he won’t be a lawyer anymore it seems. Thank God he ended with Iris! Thumbs up for this game, it is ranked FTW.

Characters and design

Of many DS games, i found PW3′s characters to be pretty original. One of my favourite character is Mr. Godot, the coffee drinking addict who wears a one of a kind 3ple cyclops visor thingy. Nobody can stop his lameness and his meaningless poetry, not to mention coffee drinking and throwing cups during court sessions. Turns out Phoenix picked up his coffee habit. Many characters have a tinge of lamery on them. For people who like lame humour, PW is the right thing for you.

Best part is, the characters from the previous series are back as well. Play the games to find out. Here’s a trailer that shows a little of the 3 games.

Graphically, the scenes in PW was drawn very nicely. The animation maintains the mysteriousness of the crime scene and the evidence artwork itself is done brilliantly.

Sound

In the series, there’s only about 6 tracks in total, however, they maintain the AWESOMESAUCE of the game! Having the shouts OBJECTION!! and HOLD IT!! also enhances the atmosphere, not to mention the constant hammering of the judge’s gavel.

Order Order!! Order in the court!

Order Order! Order in the court!!!

Future plans

Now that I’m having a holiday, I believe i should catch up on the manga as well as Apollo Justice. It turns out we get to see who his wife is in AJ, it should be Iris I think. Maybe I should quite medical school and join law. BTW, I passed my first year, congrats to me, yay! Here is a trailer of AJ.

Turns out AJ will have better graphics and sprites. Can’t wait.

Conclusion

This story is very motivating and has taught me that trust is important. Never never give up on your client. Also, a lawyer’s job is not for prosecutors and defense attorneys to argue over who is right or wrong but rather to establish the truth of what happened. Anyway, I felt sad and unfair that Iris had to serve prison, but she got the guy didn’t she? Its give and take. Can’t wait till she gets out and they can have H4WT S3X!! Ahem, I think I shall stop writing for my desires are leaking. Hope you enjoy this review.

  1. I was considering getting a DS because my friends were raging about “The World End with You.” This game sounds pretty interesting, too. Maybe it’s worth the investment.

heh… one of my favourite games for the ds! I was actually disappointed with many games for the ds and stumbled upon Phoenix Wright. My initial response was just laughing at the whole gameplay, not in a bad way but a hilarious manner. After the first case, I started to get more into the story and I really liked it. Lets just say, the story stuck for me. As you said, the storyline is great. Everything flows and for that, this game is a winner. I really like Ace Attorney 4 but Wright’s cases are just classics. Many people dismiss this game as boring but its a logical game that gets you thinking. By the way, you said there were 6 tracks to the game but thats not entirely accurate. There is actually quite a lot of background music. Enough for them to actually have albums for each game and then perform them in orchestras or jazz style. Godot’s theme for the win!! Unfortunately the place that had all of them uploaded shut down… ><
