BOKU CAN HAZ SUBZ?

The fact that I am writing this means I have fallen for the keikaku. But wait a min. Do I need to put an explanation for what ‘keikaku’ means?

I really do not know who this Otaking is and it was through posts like ’kono‘ and ‘sono‘ that led to my awareness. He seems to be a Lvl 99 Pro who is disappointed at the behaviour of current fansubbers as compared to the good ol’ days. According to him, modern fansubbers are using fansubs as a mean to demonstrate their esoteric knowledge of Japanese culture to weaboos and other suckers like me and distorting their professionalism with their own intellectual and emotional interpretations, that is if my inference is not wrong. Go watch the video if you doubt my words, for it is better to see it for yourself.

Unfortunately, there is no official code of conduct in the way fansubbers should follow because we are talking about FANS. Otaking has presented relatively reasonable points for the argument, not to forget the slightly excessive satire which was meant to support his point. And despite having expressed his cry of outrage in a 30 mins video, nothing will change the way modern fansubs are done because such ‘ethics’ are adhered not because of obligation but of free will.

Since I hail from the ‘golden age’ of anime viewing (watching anime since I was an elementary school kid), I find myself in preference of how fansubs used to be done. Yet I cannot say that all fansubbers of today have the intention of showing off their 1337 Japanese proficiency, just like how it is silly to say that all Chinese know kungfu.

Even if they are not technically doing it right according to the ‘principles of translations’, there is nothing we can do about it. We are talking about a fan community.

This is my favourite part of the Otaking’s bait.

You are talking to Kouichi...

Oh by the way, I happened to stumble across this picture of young Futami Eriko.

P.S   Why do I have memories of gay men hugging each other? Who is Misaki? Who is Teddy Bear Man?
